Signs when you need to quit your job

9 January 2018
I wanted to write this blogpost because I have been in this particular situation. I was doing a job for a year and a half and I felt absolutely so bad each day I had to go. It had an impact on so many things in my life that it just wasn't even healthy anymore. The fact is that life is way too short to spend each day as a drag. So I wrote down some signs I've had which made clear that it was time for me to search for another job.

You can't get out of your bed
Even if you go to bed early and you know you've had enough sleep. It's a drag to get up and to get ready for work. You have the feeling that you have absolutely no energy and the only thing you want is to just stay in bed for the rest of the day.

You feel unfulfilled
You feel like you don't have a purpose in your job. You have the feeling that it doesn't matter if it's you or someone else who is doing the work, that you aren't special. When you get back home, you don't feel like you did something that matters, you don't feel like you've spend your time/day well and useful.

You think about your next day at work when you have your day off
Every day when you're at work, you are looking forward to your day(s) off. But you have the feeling that you can't really enjoy your days off, because you're already thinking about the next day you'll have to work. You let the negative thoughts overpower the good ones, you're not thinking about the fact that it's finally your day off so you are able to do whatever you want.

You stay home for the smallest things
When you absolutely love your job and likes to go, you wouldn't stay at home with just a cold or a headache. When you aren't motivated to go to your work or if you just don't like it, you would do whatever to stay an extra day at home. The thing I had was that I absolutely didn't wanted to go to work and I wanted to stay at home so badly that I made myself sick, not in purpose but I felt so bad that I could get fevers and really bad headaches and pain in my stomach. And I was relieved in a kind of way when I felt sick enough.

Monday blues are hitting you
By Sunday evening you start getting to feel sick, feeling stressed, having anxiety,.. because you have to go to work on Monday. It feels like you have to enter a prison and leave your freedom behind, wishing it's already weekend and you can do things you actually like.

You don't have the desire to learn new things about your job
Some jobs are planning extra days in to learn some new things or to go more in depth about certain subjects. If you aren't fully determined, you'll hate this, it will feel like just an extra drag to go to and you just absolutely don't care.

You wonder how life would look like if you decide to quit your job tomorrow

What would I do if I could do any job I want? What would I do if money wasn't a problem? What is my purpose in life? How do other people inspire me with their jobs? Why are other people even happy to work? These are all kinds of questions that can come into your mind when you aren't happy at your job. Don't get me wrong, everyone can think about these questions even if you're absolutely fine in the place you're at right now, but the difference lays in how many times you think of this. If you think about this daily and you also feel sad about yourself whilst thinking, then you know that something isn't right.
